ABOUT RABBI AARON FELDER, ZTK'L
Rabbi Aaron Felder, ZTK’L came to this community in 1982, an accomplished Talmid Chacham and Posek. He was a Talmid Muvhak of Rav Moshe Feinstein, ZTK’L under whose direct guidance and tutelage he studied for 14 years.
Rav Felder, ZTK’L was the Rav of Congregation B’nai Israel Ohev Zedek for nearly 33 years until his petirah on the 3rd of Iyar 5774. For three decades the Rav, with the vital support of his Rebbetzin Ruth Felder, Tibadel LeChaim, made a huge impact on the community.
When the Felders came to Philadelphia, the Northeast lacked several vital institutions. Rabbi Felder immediately undertook major community projects. He began with thecreation of an Eruv. While there was widespread interest, realizing this objective had hurdles. With the support of his congregation and his authority as a Posek, the Northeast Community Eruv which he founded now encompasses the boundaries of our entire community.
Next, Rabbi Felder was key in the formation of a unified Rabbinic hashgacha – today called Community Kashrus. It united community Rabbanim under one umbrella, committed to the highest standards of kashrus supervision. Another of the Rav’s achievements was the development of a unified Bais Din for Gittin.
In addition to his communal activities, Rabbi Felder spent every waking hour learning Torah, teaching Torah, and paskening shaylos for the city and the nation. He was a recognized authority in Halacha, excelling in clear explanations to those facing day to day shaylos. His seforim, most notably his sefer Mourning & Remembrance in Halachah, continue to be relied upon to this day.
For over three decades, Rabbi Felder, ZTK’L made an enduring imprint on our Kehilla and its institutions. The Northeast Mikvah was one of the organizations to which he devoted countless hours in a selfless, unassuming manner. He was directly involved in paskening numerous shaylos related to the Mikvah.
Rabbi Felder undertook, with his Rebbetzin and community Rabbanim and lay leaders, vital fundraising efforts to support the operating costs and capital budget of the Mikvah. He helped secure funding to make upgrades to our Mikvah, and to bring
financial stability to the organization.
We also offer our Hakaras HaTov to Rebbetzin Felder for all she did to help raise funds for the Mikvah. Her leadership, guidance and insight were invaluable in the design and aesthetics of every upgrade made to the Mikvah.
Today, Rabbi Felder’s legacy lives on through our Community’s continued commitment to the institutions he helped build, strengthen, and sustain. As the Northeast Mikvah is poised to serve the expanding needs of our emerging Community, it is most fitting that we dedicate this year’s dinner to the memory of Rabbi Felder, ZTK’L.
Yehay Zichro Baruch.
